Neko Case
Tucson, AZ, USA
Alternative country singer/songwriter Neko Case won a steadily growing cult audience for her smoky, sophisticated vocals and the downcast beauty of her music. Her career began by playing drums for several bands in the Northwest punk rock scene as well as for Maow, The Weasles, and eventually her own backing band, the Boyfriends.
On her debut solo album, The Virginian released in 1997, Case delved wholeheartedly into traditional country via a mix of covers and originals. She aslo performed with Carolyn Mark in The Corn Sisters, and recorded with the Vancouver indie supergroup The New Pornographers.
More recently, her album Fox Confessor Brings the Flood released in 2006 has been hailed by critics as an instant classic and Case's most realized work yet.
